Background
The end of the Vesk Incursion saw a massive influx of the warlike species integrating all across the galaxy, and a large number of war-hardened soldiers and mercenary groups looking to earn their next batch of Credits.
Capitalizing on the opportunity that this burgeoning sector of mercenary work would present, Vortex Technologies created MercNet; a massive social platform designed to enable the posting and fulfillment of mercenary contracts.
Starting as a simple 3rd party platform that was little more than a digital help-wanted advertisement, MercNet has since grown to become the pre-eminent means of interstellar communication and commerce.
Now acting as an entire operating system and found on nearly every consumer computing device across the galaxy, MercNet has become synonymous with every day life to the average citizen. Despite the growth, MercNet never forgot its roots as a mercenary contracts platform, and offers the most robust interface and talent pool that one could hope to find, and many an aspiring Merc has found fame and fortune once having their credentials entered into the system.

Because MercNet allows for extensive expansion via 3rd party apps and providers, and even incentivizes companies to develop applications using their proprietary subspace communication system free of charge (provided they sign an exclusivity contract with MercNet, that is) the platform as a whole is considered unsecured. Vortex Technologies warns that only apps stamped with the 'Cosmo Approved' branding should be installed and used on your device.
