Session Summary

Recap

Having finished their shopping escapade, the group returns to The Adopted Archives to retrieve their map, happening upon a hushed conversation between the proprieter and a few other Derhi. After an informative talk with Lorel, the group sets off south towards Forgewick.

Upon coming near the ruins of Foregwick, the group decides to begin circling the barren city to avoid any dangers within, finding a curiously well maintained bench and shrine on the outskirts of the town. Thinking it a conspicuous trap, the group continued on into the woods east of Forgewick with the hopes to circle around the town. Unfortunately the group gets lost for several hours, eventually having to make camp for the night rather than attempt to press on in fatigue, hoping that they are able to pick up the proper trail in the morning.

Log

We awake in what feels like should be morning. We break camp and decided to head into Forgewick after all. The group gets lost for several hours after multiple terrible survival checks, eventually catching the road and making it into Forgewick proper, where we continued onwards completely unstealthily.

Zerrack hears a loud impact from somewhere ahead as we move into the city. Massu and Hacha sneak forward and find some sort of large insectoid creature near the shrine that thumbs its abdomen with its hind leg, making the loud boom. There is a small creature that ran into the shrine away from the creature and threw some sort of substance at it uselessly.

Massu moves to engage the large creature as Hacha and Zerrack move forward into danger unknowingly. Massu goes to shoot a beacon arrow but nat 1s and it breaks and gets caught in her clothes, she uses her last action to get it out and drop it.

From inside the shrine we hear some sort of voice emanating from the shrine, still throwing things at the larger creature. The creature takes 3 swipes at the shrine and misses, then notices the light from Massu and snaps its attention that way. Zerrack launches a fireball at the creature and then moves towards it

Hacha runs up and uses his kusarigama as a blender to dismantle the first one, while a second creature jumps out and runs to attack Zerrack. Massu begins to attempt to shoot through thick brush at the creature, hitting it once.

A small seemingly human face peeks out of the shrine. The creature jumps over Zerrack and does it thorassic boom attack, it is ineffective due to a wound received by Massu. Zerrack attempts to electrocute the bug but fails horribly, leaving Hacha to once again turn into a Vanaran Blender and almost kill the beast. Massu finished it with a killing arrow.

We approach the shrine and see a tiny little being about the size of our hand.

Zerrack calls out in wildsong, Hacha tries Sussaran. The group cycles through their languages, eventually Massu making contact in Sakvroth. Creature says it's fine. Massu asks if there are any others that need tended to, the creature shakes its head in response. "Tree friend not here right now". The creature says "work is practice, not wonder. Its for tree friend. Elders should say ok, yes?" We help the little creature fix its shrine and it does some sort of magic that looks like opening a door that reveals a massive room filled with tools of all shapes and sizes. The size of the workshop itself is about a 10ft square. The creature steps into the workshop and gets a few tools before starting to work on the edge of the doorway, carving the stone to make it look like new.

The creature re-carves the doorway into something pretty, utilizing the cracks as guidelines to carve decorative reliefs around, weaving them into part of the artwork itself. Massu compliments its work and the creature gets a little bashful, says its learning still and has many years before it will begin its work. Massu asks about the town and the creature says that the Anugobu are fixing the large place. Tree friends do not like the big place, but big folk will some day return.

The creature talks about how the Anugobu are apprentices and fix things, and that the creatures do nothing but destroy things. Massu asks about the benches making people sleepy, the creature thinks she is crazy. Hacha asks if he sleeps on the bench, if he will be eaten. The Anugobu says its not a safe place, that the creatures roam.

We ask how they will fix the city with the creatures, the anugobu are like "I dunno", say they've seen upwards of 10 creatures roaming the city, they are usually spread out and don't work together. Says Kerrack (the bug) they can hide from because it can't fit into small places, but the Karumzek can be small also and can chase them in.

We offer to take care of the creatures in the town and ask if the Anugobu will be able to spread the word that the town is safe. He says the Anugobu aren't usually seen by big people, that hey usually hide and help at night when things are empty. We ask about the bird creatures we found (Kyras), the creature responds that the tree friends speak with them. We still offer to clear out Forgewick for the Anugobu so that people can come here and be safe.

Massu sees another creature watching over the Anugobu as we leave the shrine area.

We slip into the town, Massu and Hacha being sneaky, looking for bad guys to fight. We hear a sound and rush forward, chasing down some of the Anugobu. Massu comes up and apologizes in Sakvroth. A creature steps out, Massu greets the creature, tells it we want to help get rid of the bad guys and asks if she knows anything about them. She says "If you hunt Karumzek, you must be wary. They are generally creatures your size or larger, but they can change that and become much closer to my size. They are quick creatures, highly venomous, beware of their charm. Should their venom set into a wound, any of their kind can sense you coming from quite a ways away."

"Be aware if you hunt these creatures. They have an innate power, the most dangerous known to us their size changing. They can for a time make themselves entirely unseen and unscented."

Massu thanks the creatures for the information. After a few moments we see a much smaller hand hold something out from under the porch. The elder takes it and holds up the tiny little tablet of brick that has a picture of the Karumzek inscribed on it.

Zerrack asks where the fountain is and the creature speaks up in rough, broken common, pointing the a northeastern direction. We try to go forward stealthily but Hacha and Zerrack don't do a good job. Zerrack sees a clear divide between the buildings that the apprentices and masters of Anugobu worked on, but can tell there is a lot of work left to do on all of it. The group continues heading towards the fountain.

We come to this beautiful found, we hear our own breath, our heartbeats in our own ears, but we see and hear nothing moving. Hacha and Zerrack move to the fountain, Massu climbs up on a roof and sees something shift behind her.

A Karumzek attacks Massu and just about takes her out in the first round, leaving Hacha to race up to the rooftop in an attempt to save her. Zerrack begins making his way towards the roof while Hacha fights off the spider monster, pushing Massu off the roof so Zerrack can heal her. After healing, Zerrack rushes up to help Hacha take care of the enemy, all of them winding up poisoned before the end of the fight.

After several rounds worth of agonizing poison, eventually everyone manages to shake off the effects of the poison and Zerrack heals most of us up a bit using First Aid.
