Lightburn represents the divine fallout that seeps into a Penitent's soul whenever they push beyond mortal limits. It accumulates with Stress and offers tremendous power at a cost.

A player is capable of holding a maximum of Six (6) Lightburn charges at one time. Lightburn is generated anytime a stress is marked off of your character sheet, or in other special circumstances.

While Lightburn is used primarily to fuel domain abilities, passively holding Lightburn provides a series of effects.

Lightburn Thresholds and Effects

Lightburn Effect
0 Stable. No effect.
1 +1 to attack and reaction rolls.
2 On Crit, regain 1 Stress.
3 Enemies take Disadvantage on reaction rolls against you.
4 Gain Advantage on all action rolls. However, GM gains 1 Fear whenever you act.
5 All Damage is reduced by 1 Severity. All Thresholds are increased by your Level.
6 You are a Beacon of Ruin. Reality Weeps for your presence. Your surge break is inevitable

Surge Break

Surge break is a special effect of accumulating too much lightburn within ones self, starting off a chain reaction of cataclysmic proportions. At 6 Lightburn Charges, you can no longer reduce your lightburn level by any means. The next time you would take a lightburn charge, the divine corruption spills out from you in an uncontrolled and unpredictable manner. The GM will roll on the Surge Break Table and describe what happens.
